Mineral sunscreens prevent UV rays from penetrating the skin and tend to be less irritating than chemical sunscreens, making them especially good if your skin is sensitive or acne-prone, or if you struggle with hyperpigmentation and melasma.

But mineral sunscreens have been known to go on thick and leave a white or purple cast… until now. Formulated with our SheerGenius™ Technology, SheerGlow™ provides 100% mineral-active broad spectrum sun protection for all skin tones. This sunscreen is formulated with finely milled Zinc Oxide so when applied it is virtually impossible to see. The formula is “non nano,” meaning the particles are not small enough to penetrate the skin, which is considered to be better for your body.

An SPF should always be the last step in your daily skincare routine. And make sure you apply it correctly! Apply at least a quarter size amount to your face and neck a minimum of 15 minutes before sun exposure. Don't forget your ears and hairline too! For the sheerest results, rub in thoroughly and wait 3-5 minutes for full absorption. Be sure to reapply every 2 hours.

Should I wear sunscreen or SPF daily?
Yes! SPF or sunscreen should be applied every morning as the final step in your skincare routine and before sun exposure. No matter your skin tone, everyone’s skin needs to be protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays even when it’s cloudy. Not to mention, a daily SPF can also protect your skin from the visible signs of aging and hyperpigmentation.

It’s also important to note that if you’re using corrective skincare products that contain AHAs or Retinol, your skin could be more sensitive to sun exposure. As a result, you should make sure you’re applying an SPF when using such products.

What is the difference between chemical and physical (mineral) SPFs?

How They Protect the Skin
Chemical: Neutralize UV rays before they can damage the skin. Ingredients are absorbed by top layers of the skin to filter the UVB/UVA rays and convert them into heat, neutralizing them.

Physical: Reflect UV rays. Ingredients form a barrier on the surface of the skin that helps reflect UV rays away from the skin.

Primary Benefits
Chemical: Depending on the formulation, chemical sunscreens may be easier to rub into the skin and less likely to leave a white cast. Tend to be better for water & sweat resistance. Tend to be thinner and easier to spread.

Physical: Depending on the formulation, mineral sunscreens may be thicker and difficult to fully blend into the skin, leaving a white cast. Tend to be less irritating and better for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Last longer when in direct UV light, but not when wet or sweating.
